Paola Bianchi – ‘animanimale’ in Teatro Espace 2017

I was fortunate, last autumn, to both light and photograph this piece of Paola Bianchi’s. The words below are Paola’s… http://paolabianchi-it.blogspot.ie/p/animanimale.html

animanimal _ action for body and voice originates from the words and images of animanimal _ apology of a human race , the book by Ivan Fantini – writer and Andrea Chiesi – painter. It is placed in that hybrid territory of the performance between narration and contemporary dance, between text and body, between listening and vision, where the canvas and the music of Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo become material that inextricably links the two layers of sense of total action.

Designed for spaces not really theatrical, animanimal explores the fragile line of division between action and vision, and experiences the nudity of the action itself, its veracity devoid of protective masks.

Ivan Fantini reads the text before The Blind Men of Andrea Chiesi,

“I or I deal with the stateless person who moves in the shadows, with the exile who lives forced to wander between unknown places and memories, places that speak another language. I deal with the strangeness of oneself in those places, with the condition of existing without being. I, human of the human race, am the stateless, the exiled, the body that exists without being …

The blind men (2.30 x 2.50 m.) Of Andrea Chiesi, his previous work but poetically consistent with the images and the text of the book, has further and inevitably modified the forms of my body. The choreography could not but take into account the figures and their forms, bringing the body to enter and exit the canvas, to relate with that space of bodies, blind humans who, in different directions but never touched, fall into a physical darkness and mental.

In making the reading of animanimal _ apology of a human race some phrases and single words are fixed in my body, they have entered overbearingly and have made themselves images. Those images were looking for a deposit, the one that usually belongs to a reader; I felt the urge to get them out again, returning them with the language that competes with me, the language of the body. Those images created by the word could not pass unscathed by a transformation of the body; I felt necessary the word / image – image / body equation and I created and modified the tensions of the body through that equation. From the deformations and transformations of tension of the body the moving form was born, the movement of that form. Words and phrases have become the motor of action, they have acted on internal forces and have modified their form. The shape of my body was ready to welcome them and the deposit was returned.
